MONDAY, MONDAY

My Jo, with his lady, Méi
From what I’ve been reading in other blogs, I wasn’t the only one to have a less than satisfactory day. It wasn’t the weather; here in the bush the sun was bright in the clear, blue sky, ideal for walking outside, if one was so inclined. The thought was there; the body couldn’t follow through.

Although very present for the long 9 hour snooze on Saturday, Morpheus was conspicuous by his total absence last night. Not a wink did I sleep. Nothing. Nada.

At 8 AM, frustrated, knowing that travelling to work would be out of the question, I resorted to Asana, those sleep-aids made with natural products. I lay across the bed, watching the clock. When the office opened at 8:30 I’d call… warning that I’d be showing late. I must have finally dropped off because the telephone woke me around 9:30. I mumbled something at my daughter, crawled back under the blankets, and 10 minutes later the darned thing shrilled again. This time it was a co-worker, justifiably wondering why I wasn’t at the office. I repeated my mumble; she hung up, apologetic, but the damage was done. Morpheus had fled, leaving me just dozy enough so that I couldn’t function properly, but not so dozy that I couldn’t fret about the whole situation. There are so many things to be done for the business – we are striving to keep it going, playing continual catch-up after the disastrous events initiated by my ex-associate, and missing a day’s work is NOT good. Just those thoughts alone can keep one awake…and then there’s my son.

I was shocked when I saw him yesterday. I knew the doctors had put him on a strict diet because of his health problem, but his weight loss seems phenomenal! My son is a strapping young man, standing around 6 foot 2 inches, ordinarily wearing 200 lbs. His clothes are hanging on him now, and in such a short time! The doctor he saw last Monday has referred him to another, who he will see on Wednesday, but they are insisting that a colonoscopy cannot be done until the swelling goes down, something that should have happened at least three weeks ago. Although he isn’t one to complain, I could tell his morale was low. He works long hours for his business, which is not yet lucrative enough to sit back and relax. He also has a young wife who is up every 4 hours to breast-feed the baby, plus two very active boys under 6 years of age to contend with at home. It means spending energy that he just doesn’t have right now. The offer for help was pooh-poohed; he’d manage; I was not to worry. Yeh, right!

When one doesn’t sleep, the brain works overtime. Because the brain works overtime, one doesn’t sleep. No wonder Morpheus stayed out of sight!

I’m the first one to admit that everything happens for a reason, but that doesn’t mean that I have to LIKE the reason.

I can’t do anything about it at the moment, so will be patient until he comes back with the doctor’s diagnosis this Wednesday. In the meantime, we need to be at the city hospital for my brother’s lung scan results early tomorrow AM, which means that I should be already in bed. If Morpheus doesn’t show up tonight, he’s fired! I’ll go out and round up sheep from somewhere….build a fence for them to jump over…invest in a huge pooper-scooper…and there – that thought made me SMILE! Thankfully, it doesn’t take much. I’m sending it out to you all, especially to those who shared my mood this Monday.

Yep – tomorrow is another day.

MY MONDAY

Sunday night, when the commotion was going on, I managed to send a Facebook message to Line, warning her that it was already 2 AM, that I didn’t expect to sleep much, that I would not be at the office before noon. Contrary to her morning routine, Line didn’t open her Facebook, so she was one of the MANY who called me around 8:30 AM. I had been in bed all of 3 hours. My mind was too full to allow more snoozing, however, so I got up and drove to the office. There were things that required my attention, and it was better than sitting at home and moping.

The girls told me they liked the haircut, and my daughter also gave her approval when I saw her later in the day. Her home is the ‘drop-off’ place for people in the area who need to give me papers but don’t want the drive out to the bush. I had stopped on my way from work, and she admired the ‘coiffure’ while we sat chatting. It was a short visit; by that time I was dragging butt and was so looking forward to getting back to my own house and making it an early night.

Suzie’s sister reached me on my cellular as I covered the last miles. She will be driving to Detroit with me on Thursday, and we hadn’t spoke, except through Suzie’s many calls, to confirm the travel arrangements. Poor girl was beginning to wonder if I really wanted her along or not, LOL! I told her I’d have shown up at her house at 4 AM Thursday morning, honked the horn outside, and yelled ‘All Aboard!’

With that settled, I fielded a couple of more phone calls, one of which was my brother. As I had guessed, his missing the appointment for the lung scan means that today there will be no hospital. He does have to return tomorrow for the results of his biopsy, so this will be my last day at the office before my vacation. I have absolutely nothing ready for this trip – there was no time to shop, to pack….so these next two days are going to be a hustle. Last night was impossible to try preparing anything– I was sleepwalking by 9:30 PM.

Bud woke me at 3:30 AM. His breathing was not good; he was in pain. I’ve given him his medication and he’s resting easier now. There’s some work I can do before leaving for the office this morning, so I’ll get to it. Man, I’m really, REALLY looking forward to the time off!!

Have a good one, folks. It’s to be sunny here; very warm, but one of our few days of summer left, so no complaints from yours truly. After my 6 hours of uninterrupted time spent in the arms of Morpheus, I’m SMILING! Sending it your way!

WHERE DID MURPHY GO?

It looks like my vacation is going to be interrupted by having to go for x-rays. The doctor isn’t sure what the swelling is, so, besides telling me I need a healthier lifestyle (work less, relax more, eat regular, exercise, etc.), he couldn’t shed light on that tiresome leg pain. He did offer me pills to sleep, which I refused. There has to be another way. Even a couple of Tylenol turn me into a Zombie. They don’t really give me a restful snooze, then for the rest of the day I just wander around in space and it seems to takes forever to get them out of my system. Last night I slept for a grand total of TWO hours…GRRR…between 10 PM & midnight. I worked some, but finally gave up on that too. Too tired to write, or do anything else, but not able to stay in bed. It’s very frustrating. This morning I have a meeting at 9 AM with one of my associates, and I fear I’ll have to come back to the house for a power nap before going to the office in the city. When I’m driving is when I could nod off – it’s getting too dangerous. Maybe I should have someone drive me around for a couple of hours each night like we do with cranky babies. You think that will do the trick, LOL?

I stopped off to visit with Bird for a few moments on the way home yesterday. Frannie was there, so he was in a good mood. Frannie’s hair is red now – it looks real nice on her. I spent some time fixing things up on Bird’s computer before driving home. I was too tired to take a walk with the doggies. I had planned on doing just that – and maybe I should have. I get the fresh country air by sitting out star-gazing on the balcony, but the walk would probably have done more good, and been more conductive to Murphy’s visit. That darned dude didn’t stick around long – maybe I should chain him to the bedpost.

I did get to watch the sun rise over my mountain this morning – gorgeous pinks and greys! What a sight!! And Kilroy is back, so I have fallen into my old routine of reading his blog with my coffee. We are both happy that there is a forecast for sunny days right through the weekend. Line is on vacation, and she called us from her boat yesterday. She has been working very hard, so the break will be good for her– didn’t she have great weather this week? I’m hoping it will continue for my days off next week.

Off I go. Hope you are enjoying this sunshine. We won’t say it too often for fear of waking the Dunany demons who just love to screw up our weather!! Sending you all a big SMILE (albeit a sleepy one), so pass it on!
